Aachal practices primarily in the areas of family law and child protection. She has also handled BC Human Rights tribunal cases.  
 
Aachal obtained her BA degree in Political Science and Criminology from Simon Fraser University in 2011 and received her JD degree from Thompson Rivers University. She has attended courses in trauma-informed practice and received training in providing legal advice to Sexual Assault Survivors.   
 

With respect to Family Law proceedings, Aachal provides legal services to both private clients and to Legal Aid clients.  She can assist you with avoiding litigation by negotiating and drafting a Separation Agreement on your behalf or finding creative out-of-the-box options.

 

Aachal represents spouses in both Provincial Court and Supreme Court in areas including parenting arrangements, child support, spousal support, and property division. Aachal has experience in interviewing children and has received training in preparing Hear the Child Reports for family law proceedings. Views of the child are an important factor that the court considers when determining which order would be in the best interests of the child.  A Hear the Child Report offers an independent way of providing the child’s views to the court and to the parties. It can often assist in settling the matter, even if court proceedings have commenced.

 
Aachal represents children in the child protection process, including providing independent legal advice to children and to representing children in child protection hearings.  She also represent parents in child protection proceedings.  The representation includes attendance at court, attendance at case conferences and mediations, and assisting parents in addressing protection concerns and liaising with the Ministry of Children and Family Development. 
 
Aachal is an avid volunteer with the Canadian Bar Association – BC Branch. She has been an executive member of the Women Lawyers Forum (WLF) – Kamloops Section since June 2015 and chaired the section for three years. She is presently a Co-Chair for the Family Law – Kamloops Section. As a member of the BC Family Law Working Group, she worked on the CBABC Submissions to BCLI on Modernizing the CFCSA.   She has chaired the CBABC Law Week Regional Committee and served on the CBABC Member Services & Engagement Committee, the CBABC WLF Retreat Committee, and the CBABC Equality & Diversity Committee.  
 
In the broader Kamloops community, Aachal has volunteered with the “Pit Stop Meals” lunch program through Kamloops United Church and been a member of the Family Tree board.  
 
Outside of her profession Aachal likes to read, snowboard, and do yoga. Aachal loves to travel, especially  to Fiji to visit with her family. She is an engaged mother of a young and very active daughter.
